Question

I am considering the Canon DC40 or the Panasonic VDR-D300. However, everywhere I turn, I find people who try to talk me out of going with a DVD camcorder. The biggest reasons, as I'm sure you have all heard ad nauseum, are that the video quality is poor and the video (MPEG-2) is very hard to edit.

Are these critics exaggerating the weaknesses of DVD camcorders?

It seems that the technology is moving away from MiniDV's as manufacturers are offering less and less MiniDV models. However, DVD media is going to be around for a long time. Am I incorrect in this observation?

Thanks.

See post #18 here http://www.pana3ccduser.com/showthr...?t=14061&page=2 for my thoughts on the issue.

That is a great post Wiz. Your use of the 300 sounds exactly like me. I want to be able to shot video of the kids and make copies for family easily. I had a DV camcorder before and I ended up never editing the video like I told myself I would.

I just ordered the 310 and should have it this Friday.
