I have a HC32 that is less than 2 years old that When I user the little manual Lens Cover Manual "toggle" it often displays "Cover is Not Open" when it so obviously is (because I can see a pic on the display, and it even lets me record, just with the flashing text (although that does not appear on the recordings)).

You could sometime flip the cover open a closed a few times and the message with go away.. other times it was there through a entire shooting session.

I've Moved towards not using the manual thing and just a snap-on over the top of the 25mm filter...

Any Advice on fixing this thing before I try to sell it.. Got gat a HDR-HC7

My HC30 was doing the same thing. I got it to stop by opening and closing the cover repeatedly many times. Guessing it is a dirty mechanical contact that can be "cleaned" by the above procedure.

I got my hc21 for peanuts because of this (Thankyou!!). It does not come onto the recording so its a very tiny inconvenience. Thanks sony for being able to pick a virtually new pocketable camcorder that does good in low light and has 20x zoom for less then 99 bucks. lol
