Randomly dropping frames

I use my Canon Xl1s as a deck when editing. I connect firewire from my computer to my camcorder. Recently, and randomly, out of NOWHERE, my camera drops frames when I'm capturing footage onto my computer. So, sometimes I'll be 10, 20, 30 minutes into capturing my footage onto my computer, and out of NOWHERE, my camera will drop a frame, and I lose EVRYTHING I captured. Because of this, I have to capture 5 minutes of video, stop and save, the capture 5 minutes, stop and save, and so one.

What can I do to my camera to fix it so it doesn't drop frames out of NOWHERE? And note, it has nothing to do with my tapes. All of my tapes are brand new, so the frame dropping has nothing to do with them. Is it possibly dirty heads?
