Help needed with SC-DC164 DVD Camcorder..

I have absolutely no problem with the DVDs, but for some reason whenever I take video with my camcorder on my SD cards, it will take the videos, they will play back on the camera, but will not play back at all when transferred to my PC. Windows Media Player will play audio only, same with Ultraplayer, and DivX Player won't even open them.

Is there a codec I need that I don't already have on the CD or somewhere? Just the mini-DVDs are a tad expensive to use up as I play around. I'm pretty sure I installed all the software.

Thanks for any help.

Chris

Boy do I feel stupid..

I just went through the CDs that came with the camcorder, and wouldn't you know it, I must have skipped adding the video codec off the CD to the PC. Sorry about that.

Anyhow, that said, I was wondering if any of you camcorderphiles out there have my 'corder, and what you might be sticking into the external mic jack? I've not messed with a mic on this 'corder yet. Just wondering if there's much of an improvement over the onboard sound.

Also, are the "aftermarket" batteries offered by third-party companies worthwhile? I've seen acouple nice deals on extended life batteries, but not sure about reliability. Thoughts?

Thanks again.

Chris
