Buying 3-Way Light Kit

I'm looking to buy a three way light kit preferably under $1000. There a lot of light kits listed on Ebay and from shady sites that pop up on Google. Can someone please tell me possibly the best place to get a kit? Or could someone could tell me where I can get the individual lights to make a kit? Thanks.

As with most things video and audio related, I'd try B&H first: bhphotovideo.com.

Good luck.

The standard B&H answer =). From what I see on their site, there aren't any kits listed. Do you know what I should be looking for, and do the lights usually have stands included? Furthermore, are stands generally universal in that any light can use them? Thanks.

Stands are generally universal, all should have the same universal screw at the top that will fit any light.

Second off, a solid light kit for under $1,000 is very plausible, and B+H can do ya one better. Check out the Dmith Vector K63-C kit. Just search K63-C at the B+H site.

No kits? I hadn't checked nor have I bought any kits from B&H. But they have one of the most complete catalogs of any store I've seen. I guess I'm surprised they don't have any kits.

My fallback would be to Google for "photographic lighting kits" or something similar and see what comes back.

UPDATE: As I wrote this I had a feeling something was wrong. I went over to the B&H site and found several pages of lighting kits:

Plenty of kits of all types to choose from.

Good luck.

Lowel has some nice kits with a variety of big/small/soft/hard lights in the kits. Lowel is the world leader in location lighting and their DV Creator kits are the most popular kits by far. Here is a quick video to walk you through a few of the lights in a kit. If you have high speed internet this video might help give you an idea of what the lights do and how they function http://link.brightcove.com/services.../bctid203709670

BTW, you can also rent these kits if you're in a major city here is an example:
