vx2100 - firewire port

I have a vx2100 where it seems that the firewire port is not working. I plugged the firewire cable into another camera and the pc recognizes it and i'm able to capture. When I plug it into the vx2100 and put the camera on vcr it does nothing and can't get the pc to recognize the vx2100. Do you think the port is bad or is there something i need to do on the camera to get this work.

thanks.

Maybe you need to re-install a driver for your cam. A bit strange though that your pc doesnt recognize your cam at all. Did you put your cam on the VCR function when connected? Could be your camera wasn't active. Hopefuillyt this will solve your problem. Good Luck!

Since you have a known good pc port / capture program, and a known good firewire cable, I'm afraid it must be the camera port. If you've ever pugged the connector into the camera with the power on, that's been known to do it. Or it could be a manufacturing defect. But there is no menu option that needs to be set to make it work.

The problem is with the port itself

I had the same problem--my editing software would not recognize my VX2100 when plugged into the firwire port of my computer. I did several hours of trouble shooting. Finally Sony tech support confirmed that the problem was the camera firewire port itself. Sony could repair it for--hold onto your hat-- $500.00!!. I would assume that others have had the same problem and that the issue is with the design of this $2000+ camera's firewire port. I think it is outrageous that Sony takes no responsiblity and makes no attempt to work with the customer unless he shells out $500.
Anyway, don't despair. Here is my fix. I bought an inexpensive camcorder with a firewire and use that to transfer tape to my computer. I even rationalize that this is a good thing as I am extending the life of the tape transport mechanism of my expensive VX2100.
