XL2 Zoom Extender/Converters

Hi,

I have an XL2 with the 20x lens, and I also have the Canon 1.6x extender mounted between the body and lens. So I can get 32x now.

I want to get closer to something so I bought a cheap 2.5x telephoto that mounts on the end of the lens - made by Digital Optics. It's sold by many retailes as being compatible with the XL2 but it is NOT. The XL2 can't focus through this 2.5x tele after you zoom in about halfway. Not Autofocus and not manually - it just doesn't work.

I tried it on another XL2 that doesn't have the Canon 1.6x extender, with the same result - no focus after you zoom in about halfway.

I'm thinking about buying the Century Precision Optics VS-16TC-XL Tele-Converter lens, with a street price of about $800. (Actually Century has a new updated design so that model number is outdated, but it's basically the same 1.6x tele.)

Since the Canon 1.6x extender is much cheaper than this Century Optics 1.6x tele lens, I'm assuming that nobody would be using the Century Optics lens without also using the Canon Extender, for a total of 51.2x.

Is anyone using both these 1.6x extenders on an XL2 with the 20x lens? Does it let you zoom in all the way?

Greatly appreciated,
Steve
