Canon VL20 Light - Some tips needed

I got a Canon VL20 video light from a friend of mine who was getting rid of his video gear. It's a great light, but I have a couple of things to figure out.

See the attached picture.... There is nothing there to diffuse the light, so you can see the halogen reflectors rings on whatever you are shooting. It also lights interview subjects way too much at night causing them to squint. Any thoughts about how I could correct this? I was looking into the idea of taking some wax paper and slipping it just in front of the light bulb (inside the casing) but wasn't sure if this would melt. Any thoughts?

Also...My old video light could be aimed up and down.. the shoe clip was bendable. On this new one, it isn't. I haven't used it yet, but couldn't this be an issue when lighting an interview subject at night and you are trying to hit their face?

Any tips?

Thanks!

Sorry about the photo quality, I had to really compress it to get it to fit onto the forum.

jrc,

I moved your thread to the Lighting forum where you should probably get more responses.

Good luck.
