OTG Drive
I've been using this for about a month.
Beside using it as an OTG drive for the camcorder, I am using it as the second drive for my laptop as well.
The only catch - I have to use the USB cable that comes with the drive, otherwise the drive may loose connection with the camcorder in the middle of the backup and I have to start over again.
Very handy if you have to go on trip or vacation w/o your computer.

Yep, that's exactly the purpose of the OTG drive.
- Just connect the drive to the power source (battery or AC)
- Turn on the power
- Wait for a beep from the drive (that signal the drive is in HOST mode)
- Connect the camcorder to the drive and switch the camcorder to playback mode
- then wait for 2 beeps to signal a successful connection
- Press the 'COPY' button on the back of the drive and viola, the drive will successively copy the hard drive and SD card from the camcorder to seperate folders in the drive.
- Upon finished, the drive will beep twice
- if there's any problem in the middle of the transfer, you'll receive a annoying continuously beep and an error light will appear on the back of the drive and you have to start over again
- This happens when I didn't use the cable that comes with the drive. The USB cable that comes with the drive is heavily shielded and is over double the diameter than the one that comes with the camcorder.
And it works with MC500 as well. But I think you would be better off getting some extra CF card because you can get some 16 GB card for under $200 and you don't have to wait almost 40 minutes to offload the complete drive (30 GB on the MG505)
Also the model I got may not be the best suit for the MC500 because the media on tht MC500 is removable. A OTG drive with a built in card reader can take advantage of the that feature where you just need to plug the filled up card in the drive for backup and continuous shooting with the second card in the camcorder. ie., minimal interruption. Also, there would be no cabling issue, ie., no problem with lost connection during backup.
The OTG enclosure I got it for $25 and the drive is a 160 GB drive for about $100.

thanks ROT for your information,,
however i did try card reader OTG ,,but fail to transfer data to driver.
Error message or half way halt during data transfer, unless you transfer the file belong 2gb...this is really unsound for me..
