Wide Angle Lens with Lens Hood?

This question has been on my mind recently, but lets say I put a Wide Angle Lens onto my camcorder, is it possible to put an additional lens hood to attach to these lens? If it is possible, would the lens hood's size have to vary from the wide angle lens itself? For example: my camcorder uses a 43mm Wide Angle Lens, would I have to get a lens hood of a bigger size to attach to these lens?

Thanks
-Kelvin

You can buy one hood that matches the outer thread of the wide-angle converter and a step-up ring. Or you can buy two hoods ;-) Obviously, with a wide-angle converter your hood should be wider to avoid vignetting.

There are formulas to calculate the hood size and shape, but I don't know them. So either you want to have some fun with math or you can just buy several of them and see how they work for you.

Important: many tele and wide converters do not have outer thread, make sure that you get one that has. Otherwise you will have to get a hood that is affixed with a locking screw. If you want a square hood then you will need one with a locking screw anyway. If you want a round one, then threaded hood seems more practical to me.

Case in point: my Elura 100 has 27mm thread. On the photo below you can see a square hood affixed on a 37mm UV filter, which in turn, is attached to 27mm-to-37mm step-up ring. In your case instead of a filter you will have a wide converter.

The wider the angle of view, the shorter the lens-hood... Most stock hood are sized for the wide-angle end of zoom range, making them too short to really be effective at telephoto ranges. On a really wide angle of view, pretty much no hood will be effective (look a the hoods on things like 12-18mm SLR lenses, they are cut in a "petal" shape, such that the corners of the frame don't really have any "hood", just the flat-middle top&bottom)

The ideal -- though costly and tedious to work -- hood would be of the proper aspect ratio, made of accordion-pleated black material, mounted on geared rails so it could be cranked in and out to match lens angle. Something on the nature of: http://www.cavision.com/matteboxes/.../4x4bellows.htm

Thanks for all the help, but I have another question. I was planning on getting the Canon HV20, and getting a wide angle lens with a lens hood. Has anyone ever tried this before?
