Start with SEKTIONCHEFS SD copy utility..Can be found if you search this forum...
Then the BEST is what you like and can use...
I use Ulead Movie Factory sometimes , and also Pinnacle Studio..
Best to get some trials first to decide what you like..
BUT,,,,,,,,,,first off get the SD COPY UTILITY....it's free!!!!!!!!!
Changes .mod to .mpg and sets the 16x9 flag.........
Works like a charm......
OR....if you don't desire to edit, get the Everio Share station..
1 step to get a dvd..........

I have used the Cyberlink PowerDirector Express software that came with the camera.
Being new to editing I found it easy to master and produced an acceptable DVD when used in association with PowerProducer.
Being a cut down version the audio editing capabilities are limited.
I have therefore placed an order with Amazon UK for Version 6 when it is available mid September, also it is being offered reduced at £44.00.

try Pinnacle 11
As I understand it, the Pinnacle 11 for $49 is very user friendly. And it retains the .MOD format so as not to lose quality in conversion. Let us know what you think of whatever program you choose.

PowerDirector also uses the MOD file format also files converted with Sektionchif's SDCopy also work fine.

If you're running a Mac (don't know why you wouldn't!), go with iMovie. It comes standard with all Macs as part of the included software, and it's really an awesome introduction to working with videos. You can learn many of the basics of video editing by simply playing with the program and toying with it.
Final Cut Pro is definitely what I ultimately recommend, but you really gotta take some time and learn it; you can't just play with it, because it's not that user-friendly (no truly "pro" application really can be that user-friendly).
If you're running Windows, you can play around with the included Windows Movie Maker, though I don't particularly think it's that great. If you plan to do any serious editing, definitely pick up a copy of Final Cut (Express/Pro) for the Mac (if you're a Mac guy), or Avid/Pinnacle for Windows.

I wouldn't bother with the included software. I've been using that SDcopy program to transfer the video from my camera to my computer hard drive, then using Windows Movie maker to edit videos. I find Movie Maker to work fine, despite being windows. Besides, I already had it on my computer.

Second this. If all you need is to trim here and there, combine segments into one video, and add transitions and titles, Windows Movie Maker is sufficient. Always use SDCopy tool for widescreen videos!

Actually, now that I downloaded the trial version, I have found that MPEG video wizard is the perfect tool for quickly splicing together clips (after using SDcopy, of course.) It's so much better to keep the files MPEG'd.

New to this whole HDD camcorder thing. Is it correct (what I am reading) that if I use the SD Copy to transfer video from my Everio to my PC (using XP Home version) that WMM is sufficient for novice editing?
Should I first uninstall the "included software"?
I also would like to ask a couple other questions. Once I edit video using the WMM can these be sent as email attachments? What is max, size? I attempted to send one and it was too big so it never went through.
Also max size for uploading to say YouTube?
Thanks for any help.
Paul

I don't know, Paul; I haven't been using Microsoft movie maker anymore since I bought Sony Vegas. Try what you have and see what works for you. I'm getting away from Microsoft's movie maker now because it doesn't process the MPGs very well.
The MPEG Video Wizard works great for splicing together all of your mpgs, and it will process them really quickly. It might be worth it to invest in that program.

SDCopy has no relation to WMM. For me, the main benefit of SDCopy is correcting the widescreen flag. If you shoot 4:3 videos, SDCopy is not needed.

Read YouTube how-tos. Oh well, I can tell you: shorter than 10 minutes and smaller than 100MB.

I've searched threads for the answer to my question, but I didn't find any specific answer for it, so please don't pick me apart if it was answered somewhere else, this is only my first post!
Can the JVC Everio GZ-MG330 be used to edit with iMovie '06? I know on the site it says it is compitable with iMovie '08, but that program sucks. Has anyone had problems with editing or is even able to edit on iMovie '06?
Thanks!
