Question Roxio editing

Does anyone have any experiences out there using Roxio to edit clips shot from a 403?

I have a Dell XP410 with Windows Vista on Order, and Roxio is included. I'm hoping for a smooth transition...

Ah, but what version of the Roxio stuff?

There is a basic version, a deluxe (or is it a suite) version, and a deluxe suite (in stores, the last includes a Dazzle analog capture device).

An OEM version may not even have all the capability of the basic, and I believe one needs deluxe/suite/whatever to handle HDV (Uhm, the 405 is a standard definition camera, no?)

I don't recall if there is a DVD ripper module in EMC 9... Standard definition DVD cameras create standard video DVD file structures, and you may need to rip the video off the disk to get it into a form that can be edited.

It is Creator 9.0 Premier - Ultimate Burn/Authoring version. I am hoping that I can copy the clips using the Picture Package Software to my hard drive as .mpg files, and then edit them from there using Roxio....

My camera is standard definition, DCR-DVD403 NTSC, I purchased it in `05.

Thanks for the Reply!

Eeek! I just hit Roxio's site, and version 10 is now out... v10 adds 5.1 support, and HD DVD burning...

The only Creator 9 Premier I could find on a quick Google is the OEM version packaged by Dell... Which is probably a minimal version with just the basics of burning...

http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/c...te/compare.html

{Do I want to upgrade to v10... I probably don't need the not-yet shown "deluxe suite" as I don't need another copy of the Pinnacle (yes, them) Dazzle analog capture device; and I mostly use Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 7 (planning to upgrade to full Vegas Pro 8 in a week or so)}

Searching on Dell Creator 9 did give me this:

http://www.dell.com/content/learnmo...imen&~tab=topic

Which seems to indicate it may be most of the EMC 9 Suite

That's just great, it appears that my Dell version is not fully functional? I wonder why? So, what are my options, Buy version 10, or switch to another suite of products? Now I'm geting worried......

Again, Thanks for the feedback wulfraed.

It will be "fully functional" at the level Dell licensed from Sonic (they own Roxio these days, which is why EMC includes MyDVD for the disk authoring module). It may not be "complete" if compared to the EMC deluxe/suite packages.

OK, That link you provided earlier indicates the differences between the Dell version, and the 'complete' version. It appears that I won't be able to fully edit my video clips (videowave? using timelines, background music, etc?)

I guess I wll have to wait until the computer gets here to see what it can or cannot do. Thanks again. I will post updates on my progress....

The comparison chart is between two separate DELL OEM packages... You stated the system had the "Premier", so everything on that chart is supplied -- but unspecified is stuff like HDV capture which the Roxio Deluxe Suite supports.

Thanks again, yeah I went back to that link again and re-read it. It does appear that I should be able to do what I want.

My primary objective, is to have the ability to take a large number of short (15-20 second) clips, edit, and create a single "movie" from them. The picture package software cannot handle that at all. It stores each clip as a separate 'chapter', and as such, there is a delay between clips. (you are also limited to 98 clips per DVD, regardless of size.) I also want to add background music and transitions between clips.

Well, regardless of software, the DVD spec only allows for 99 "chapters" -- but chapters pointing into a single file shouldn't have pauses between them.

That's my dilema, I want to create a single chapter from a number of individual clips. From my experiences, Picture Package cannot do that..

I'm hoping to accomplish this with Roxio.

Even Windows Movie Maker could do that...

Yeah, I know, but up until now, I've been using my company's computer, and they have this thing so watered down (no VM, firewalls everywhere, etc) that I cannot do a lot of the things I want. Additionally, I couldn't justify spending money on software to load onto this computer, only to have it replaced every 2 to 3 years.

My new monitor arrived this morning, the remainder of the components should be here in the next couple of days. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks again for everything.....
