Optura 20 Pixilating Blocks...

Canon Optura 20 Mini DV.

This only happens on the Monitor/TV screen when playing tape back through A/V output. The picture on the view screen of the cam is fine. I can download via firewire to Pinacle 10 with no problem in picture. While under warrenty it did this. The tech said they had to adjust something in the camera.

Have any ideas? No more warrenty and could probably buy a new one for the price of a fix.

Best,

Bryan

These days, not with that chip size <G>

Lots of 1/6" cameras fit to give your worst enemy for Christmas, but not many keepers with 1/3" or larger chips. And even fewer with manual focus (and much fewer with manual focus via lens ring), microphone in, headphone out, shutter priority, and audio gain control. The Sony consumer stuff is aimed at the "don't confuse me with manual controls" crowd.

In current production, if you stay with Canon, the replacement for the Optura line is the HV20.

When my Optura 20 tape mechanism started binding (wouldn't eject, nor would it fully load) the local repair shop estimate came to around $500 for parts and labor -- for another $250 I bought an Optura 40... But you can guess how many years ago that was, as the 40 was subsequently replaced by the 60... And the 60 was discontinued probably in 2005 if not sooner. The last Elura was produced 2006. All that remains of the once noble family is the ZR series...
