DV-5000U isn't recording Data Code

Hi everyone. I have a problem I can't figure out.

I have a DV-5000U that we bought recently(pretending i haven't ignored this not too critical problem for months) that doesn't record the data code to the tape as far as I can tell(I am assuming it is supposed to). I have played the tapes back on a Sony DSR-11, DSR-30, and Sony DV Walkman. These decks have no issues reading the data code off of the tapes recorded with our DV-500.

I went though all the menus and I have the date and time set correctly as far as I can tell and can get that superimposed on the video just fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hoab, try playing a captured DV AVI file using DVMP (DV Media Player) Basic.

http://www.dvmp.co.uk/dv-media-player.htm

It displays lots of datacode info that is embedded in the DV data in a pane beneath the video as it plays, including timecode, date/time, f-stop, shutter speed, white balance settings etc.

If the info was not recorded by the camera then the corresponding items of data are displayed as a line of '---'.

It is very rigourous in detecting this data, so if it shows up as dashes in DVMP Basic then you can be sure that the data is not being recorded by the camera.

Let me know how you get on.

If the camera IS recording this data then it may be possible to (for example) filter captured files so that the info does show up when played back in other cameras.
