I just purchased a used Optura 50, and I'd like to clean the video heads so as to clear it of lubricants from previous tapes used before inserting mine. Is there a brand of cleaning tape that's better than others, and can it be used on camcorders from different companies? Also, is there a cleaning method that works as well or better than using a cleaning tape? (I know there was a thread on this topic; as it was from 2004, however, I was wondering whether things have changed much in the years since.)

Nothing has changed except maybe more opinions.

For digital tapes MiniDV and Digital8 I have always used dry cleaners rather than wet cleaners.

Other people have different opinions.
