Sports filming

I film sports events--swimming and basketball --and am looking to get the best camcorder for that.

I own a Canon DC 20; it takes good footage, but changing out the discs and batteries during an event (like a basketball game) is a hassle and I often miss some of the action.

Do the newer HD/HDD camcorders overcome this problem? Are there drawbacks to the HDD format? Also, has Canon ever improved its My DVD software program?

Your guidance and comments are appreciated.
