lighting for roller derby?

I've been hired to shoot a local roller derby bout, and my client says that the place will be "pretty dark" and is concerned about lighting for the video (as am I). I have the VL-3 hotshoe light for my Canon GL2. Anybody have experience with this sort of thing? Do you think I'll need more significant lighting?

That light is a 3 watt light. You will need hundreds, if not thousands, of watts to light a significant area. You need to understand first how much area you want to record and light. But even a studio shoot in a fairly small area can take hundreds of watts. I have a feeling this job is a little more than an amateur can handle with a few on cam lights.

Good luck.
