I recently found a very reputable repair facility for my Xl1s. Video One Repair is in California and works exclusively on Canon and JVC prosumer camcorders. They are true professionals and replaced the entire recording/playback module of my camera for a reasonable price after troubleshooting the problems I'd been having. They also offer a guarantee that is above and beyond what is offered by most. For 6 months following the repair they gurantee (at their expense) to repair anything else that goes wrong with the camera... even if it differs from the original problem. I've tested them on this guarantee and they really do hold true to their word.
