Scene detection in iMovie with no timecode?

I am looking to make the switch from Windows/Pinnacle Studio to the Mac/iMovie & iDVD.

Can anyone tell me if any version of iMovie will do scene detection on video that does not have time code?

This would be analog video captured using an analog-to-digital converter like the Canopus ADVC-100, throught the Firewire interface.

This scene detection would need to detect breaks in the footage and insert clip markers or break the capture into multiple files, so that it is easy to edit the broken up scenes and/or insert chapters at these breaks.

Pinnacle's Studio does this exceptionally well, but I am getting tired of the other buggy parts of Studio and I am not happy with Vista.

Thanks in advance,
jklein

I normally use FCP but have used iMovie. If you making the switch to a Mac, I would look into using FCP.

As far as your questions, I am not sure, but in my experience I have had no problems importing into iMovie. I am pretty sure that it creates new clips every time there is a break in the time code.

Is the video from a camcorder? If so, which model? FCE would do the job a little cheaper. Steep learning curve though. I switched from iMovie and its different.

Hi,
I was searching for a way to detect cuts in my video without timecodes in iMovie.
It seems I found a solution recently - it's a tool that can detect cuts and split files into scenes
