PVGS85 date/time stamp

Just got the gs85 and I cannot figure out how to get the date stamp to just show for the first few seconds of a new day's recording session on playback. The date is on all the time during playback and is annoying. I have had other brand camcorders in the past and they all presented the date at the beginning of a new day recording. How is one supposed to keep track of the dates on a tape that could span a month or more?

thanks

Many/most consumer camcorders will show the date/time on the LCD/Viewfinder or output the date/time when played back and output through the AV cables but it is not actually placed on the video image. If you process your MiniDV or Digital8 video by transferring it to a computer with Firewire there are utilities which can add the date/time to the image. DVdate by Paul Glagla http://paul.glagla.free.fr/dvdate_en.htm is one such utility.
