Question about final cut editing

I'm using the xh a1.
Alright here is my problem. I'm shooting in sd at 30f. I've tried multiple video capture settings and video sequence settings when editing in final cut pro. The captured footage usually looks ok, "not as good as it should" but when i bring the footage onto the timeline and render it, it looks like garbage. I'm not sure if the compressor is the problem because ive used multiple ones, or if its because there isnt really a standard definition sequence setting for the 30f rate. Any suggestions on which settings to use would be much apprieciated. Thanks.

30f SD will be handled as 29.97.

Try going to the Easy Setups and choosing DV NTSC.
