Question Editing movies etc

We've recently purchased a DC20 for my son to use who is a very keen boarder because he wants to make some demo videos. We bought the DC20 because felt it was the best things for him as he's 12 and it goes straight onto disk etc. What I'm really struggling with is finding the right software to edit the videos, add sound etc. Although I work in web design this is so not my area and would really appreciate a bit of advice from anyone whose had experience of this. Many thanks for any help offered.
