SDR-H18 playback problem

Let me start by saying I am using a SDR-H18. I am having an issue with playing back video through Windows Media Player. First I transfer the video to my computer from the camera and then change the extension to .mpeg. When I try to play it in Windows Media Player, it is very choppy. It will play for about 1 second then stop and wait 1 or 2 seconds then play another 1 or 2 seconds before it stops again. This continues until the video is over. I have tried transferring the videos from the camera using the supplied software and I have also tried the SDCopy tool I found on this website. Nothing has worked yet. Also the 16:9 aspect never shows correctly on playback unless I am using the supplied software.

I have done some research and haven't been able to figure this out. Please help, we are expecting our first child and I want to be able to post video to the internet for family in different states. I can compress video for the internet, but I want to make sure it is working correctly before I compress it.

Thank you so much, in advance!!
Doug

Do you have the right codecs installed on your machine to play the mpg files?

By the way, if you are doing the renaming, drag/drop method - never delete files with your pc mouse from your camera's hard drive...

Only delete files using the joystick/recycle bin button on your camera - you can screw up the indexing system, otherwise.

I have tried the supplied Image Mixer 3 and I get the same result.

How do I know if I have the right codecs installed and where would I get them if I don't?

Thanks for the tip on not deleting through the pc, luckily I haven't done that.

I tried that program, GSpot, and it said the needed codec is installed. What else could it be, I don't get it.

Thanks!!

I just got the SDR-H18 last week & have been reading the manual. After filming my grandson & downloading it to the computer & onto a disc, I noticed that the date/time did not transfer over.

Is this the way it is supposed to be, or did I do something wrong. The only other camera we ever had was a VHS & the date/time recorded onto the film so you would know when the film was made.

The manual does not actually say this as far as I can tell.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

what kind of file was that originally right after you tranfer the files from the camcorder to the computer? if it was *.mod try playing it in windows media player or real player.
if it didn't open well with the original file, download This media player and try it.

More than likely you did not do anything wrong, the date and time is not recorded onto the video as your VHS. It is a feature which is not common these days.
