DC50 Video Quality in SP & LP modes

Hello all, first post here and wanting a little info. on the DC50. I just purchased a DC50 yesterday from B&H Photo and should receive it Monday. On the Canon website it states that with a dual layer mini dvd-r that recording times are 36min. in XP, 54min. in SP, and 108min. in LP. How much does the video quality suffer when using SP or LP modes. I had hoped to atleast be able to use SP mode with acceptable results. Thanks in advance for your help.

not bad

my mother has the dc210 and the video in sp mode looked suprisingly good on her 1080p 42in lcd. So I can only assume that with the much better ccd in the dc50 you shouldn't have any complaints.

As A fellow owner of the Canon DC dvd cam series for 4 years now I can tell you definitely record on the highest setting (or at least sp, it's not that bad.) you can get almost an hour with a double layer dic on your model. there is a HUGE difference in quality from XP to LP. To prove this record some short varying video with some moment in it on XP and LP. Hook up the cam to the tv and you see exactly what I mean.

Use xp
