DVD301 producing red-colored video

I have a DVD301 with the following problem for about 2 months. I will insert a new disc, film for a while, even over the course of days, then suddenly I will turn it on and the display and playback in the camera is in "red out" conditions. All footage recorded from that point will be red when finalized and placed in DVD or computer.

I insert a new disc, problem goes away. However, it always returns to that state sometime during the life of the dvd. This past time, I inserted a new dvd, hit the record button, and instantly the display turned red.

I have not been using Sony DVDs recently, so I am buying some today to see if that makes a difference. If not, any ideas on what the problem might be? Thanks for your time. Corey

That sounds nasty.
I don't think it would be the DVDs you are using because it is digital data. Either the 1's and 0's are there or they are not.
Sounds very much like an intermittant internal problem and time for a visit to your nearest Sony hospital for a check up.

Step through the Setup Menu options and check all the exposure & compensation options.

If those are okay, could it be your Nightshot switch getting bumped?

Thanks for the replies

Thanks for the advice. I have tried all of the settings within the camera, and the only unusual trait I noticed (and this has been the case from the beginning of ownership) is that my exposure has to be almost all the way to the PLUS side in order to see any picture. Nightshot is not on.

Will try the Sony Discs when I get them, after that I may need to take the first advice, and a repair shop. I wonder how much I should look to repair rather then just replace at this point. Thanks.

Corey
