DVC30 on iMAC problems RESOLVED, bought a Mac Pro
OLD MESSAGE READ:
New iMac doesn't see the DVC30 as a device with either iMovie or FC..
On a PC, you turn on the vid cam and drivers get loaded etc but on a mac? What am I missing here?
----------------------------
After a week of forum searching and having the iMac trouble shooting in the mac shop it was finally determined that the majority, if not all, of the newer intel Aluminum iMacs are NOT compatible with the DVC30 camera, or most other cameras, due to a Firewire issue on these iMacs.
The camera will work on ANY other mac product machine be it Mac Book Pro, older gen iMacs, notebooks etc etc but just not the aluminum framed iMacs.. period. Couldn't even hook up an external FW HDD.
I resolved the issue by returning the iMac and replacing it with a quad core Mac Pro which is what I should have bought in the first place, skipping the iMac all together.
So if you ARE interested in an iMac for your video editing, please DO take your camera gear to the shop and ask them if you could hook it up to the model you're interested in purchasing. You'll be able to then make sure before purchase that your camera and mac is compatible..
Cheers
