Where can I buy a new Elura 100?

As the title says...where? Everything I find seems to be refurbished. I have an Elura 100 and love it. My friend wants one now too!
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

I guess, you can buy it at the same place where they sell brand new '59 Buicks.

Just when thru this search!

FZ

I did an extensive search for a brand new Elura 100 in early November 2007, and came up with no hits, if you want a new unit with a 12-month US warranty. I do not think the major retailers have any remaining in stock.

There were a few sketchy retailers in NY/NJ that stated they had "new with full warranty" Elura 100s, but when I pressed them regarding having a 12-month US warranty they got vague quickly. Therefore I think those were grey market units = either non-US units or refurbs that they were describing incorrectly.

If you purchase one off ebay or other like sites, likely there will probably be NO Canon/OEM warranty even if it is marketed as "new" unless the seller is an official Canon reseller. Per Canon's site, their camcorders have to be sold by an official retailer to have a US OEM warranty...not someone who purchased a unit and now wants to resell it for a profit. Canon even had some verbage on how a "gifted" camcorder would need a valid paper trail...can not remember the exact wording.

So I inquired with a few aftermarket warranty companies...none I found would provide a warranty on a refurbed unit with less than a 90-day warranty. BUT, one warranty company called "Square Deal" will sell you a warranty on a used unit purchased off ebay or Amazon...that makes no sense to me!

I happened to see Canon's online estore was selling refurbed Elura 100s. That is what I got...only has 60-day warranty but at least it had a valid US warranty. I just checked...none are shown for sale today. Maybe contact Canon's estore and inquire if any more will be sold.

Sorry to not be able to provide an easy route, I think I tried most angles and avenues to extend the 60-day OEM warranty to no avail. I'm sure you could twist a story when buying the aftermarket warranty, but if you ever needed the warranty I think the paper trail would prevent any coverage...so why spend $$$ in the first place. Only way I can see finding a 12-month US-warrantied unit is stumbling across an independent (ie small retailer) shop...that is a official retailer for Canon...that still has new Elura 100 inventory. Good luck with that one
