Need help getting analog video to digital format

Hello,

My goal is to get all my analog tapes archived to miniDV tapes.

My original plan was to connect a VCR to the Elura 100 and use the feature that lets me copy the analog tape to a miniDV tape. With this method I am not using the computer at all. Later on when I have time I can capture the miniDV tape to the computer for editing.

My questions are: Would I get any better quality if I used the passthrough feature to move the analog video to the computer and then use Premiere 4 to copy it to a miniDV tape for archiving purposes. Or are there any other reasons to use the passthough feature rather than what I originally planned.

Thanks, Bill

Hi, Bill. I use my 100 for pass-through. It's faster, and there is no intermediate copy to degrade the images, even if it would be slight. One tip if you use pass through with Premiere: I couldn't get it to work with Premiere Elements until I was told to turn off the scene recognition. I didn't need to do that in Pinnacle Studio, but it was necessary with PE3. Good luck, and Happy New Year!
