Quality (and cheaper!!) alternatives to Canon's HC-4200 hardcase

I've looked at Canon's HC-4200 hardcase, but I'm looking for a hardcase that does NOT cost $350!!

Does anyone have any suggestions for good quality and cheaper alternatives for hardcases for the XH A1?

Thanks in advance

What camera have you got? I've got a Pelican 1510 for my A1 and it's great.

I have a XH A1 with wide angle convertor, separate mic, batteries, lens hoods, power supply and 2 batteries.

I've looked at the Peli cases, but I can't find one that's the right size for all my kit.

I'm surprised you haven't been able to find a pelican that's right for you considering the number of different sizes they have! Maybe if you could give us some idea of the size you were after that would help? How long is the mic? This is a picture of my camera in my Pelican 1510:

As you can see I have left room for accessories that I haven't yet bought. I'm pretty sure the things you listed would all fit in there, you've just got to be a bit creative in your placement (remember the case is 3D not 2D, so some things can overlap. For example, you could store 2 batteries on top of each other, or have them underneath the mic...)

Yes, I know the case is 3D and I could overlap some of the kit.

I want a case about the size of the Canon HC-4200, but half the price

All of my kit would not fit in the 1510 and I don't want one of the HUGE Pelican cases as I don't want to have to take up bodybuilding BEFORE I'm able to carry it around.

Dimensions of the mic are: 65mmH x 250mmW x 102mmD

Wide Angle lens is the Canon WD-72, which is a HUGE piece of glass.

The specs that I have been able to find for the Canon HC-4200 state: 17.5"x13.5"x10.25" exterior dimensions. 1510: 22.00"x13.81"x9.00" exterior dimensions. Why is the 1510 case not "about the size of the Canon HC-4200"?

Because the HC-4200 is taller and has storage space in a compartment underneath where the camera is stored. This compartment is big enough for the wide angle converter including lens hood, 2 batteries, carrying strap and remote control.

The 1510 has thicker walls and thus the interior space is less, than the HC-4200

Using your pic as an example. I think I could just about the wide angle converter in to the left of the camera, but I would not be able to fit in the lens hood too. The mic would probably not fit in to the top of the camera unless I stuck it in on its side. The camera and other bits would have to be squeezed into the top left hand corner.

The space in the HC-4200 is laid out better and I'd still have space for tapes in the pockets fitted in the lid of the case.

That's all your gear right (I'm sure you could re-arrange to fit better as well)? And if you really needed more space you could get the lid organizer: Anyway, that's enough unpaid advertising for Pelican from me!

Yep, that's about how I thought it could fit in.

Maybe I'll give one a go. Thanks for taking the trouble to layout an example of how my kit could fit into a 1510.
