Got an HC-96 and have a few questions

I just got my HC-96 and am starting to figure it out. Basically I'm going to be doing pretty easy filming of kids and family, putting video on a Mac, and burning to DVD with iMovie and iDVD. I'm also going to use it to transfer old analog video to my computer. I need an iLink cable, correct? What other accessories do I need? Also, do I need to install the Sony software that came with it, or can I bypass that and just use the Mac software? Thanks!

Yes you need a cable. iLink/Firewire/IEEE1394 are the same thing.

Your camcorder has a 4 pin IEEE1394 terminal. I don't know what the Mac's have, but you need the correct combination.

I do not use the Sony camcrder software.
