Same lens, same small CCDs as on HD7/HD3, same Gigabrid engine. Not impressed. They finally delivered what they should have done with HD7 in the first place. They had this 1080p60 technology a year ago. Should I be happy how? Nah. Give me improved HD7 with bigger sensor and proper OIS. These HD3-like purse cameras with 60p will not sway market to JVC from Canon because they are late, but most importantly, because they do not produce real 1080p.
Now on the lesser news:
* I did not notice focus ring on the photos, does not seem to be there. The HD3 has no focus ring either.
* I hope that OIS will not suck as much as on the HD7.
* MicroSD? JVC is nuts to switch from SD to MicroSD. This feature alone crosses these models out of my shopping list.

Sadly...I'm beginning to think that the HD7 will have no true successor judging how the HD6 has turned out. No more manual focus ring on ANY camcorder under the $1700 price range regardless of HD or SD.

HD6 is not a true 60p . It upconverts to 60p . the Cam is still 60i
I hope JVC will update not this year maybe next year on the HD7. I was looking at the spec sheet and it has 1920x1080 60i ,but outputs 1980x1080 60p through HDMI output and the VD-40 storage unit will do it also. To me that means HD7 footage to VD-40 will output 60P ! upscale. It has the same settings as the HD7 for video recordings just not all the features. but it does have the next HDMI output and the new X.V. color. I think it is all the same chips just different programing. Make one board and make alot of different units. That cuts cost. Make more money. Just never give them what they want !! Come on JVC. That is why I dont buy Sony any more. I have no Sony's in my House they just pissed me off and I'll never go back !!!!!!! They have just got to big and don't care about us anymore. Canon almost did the same thing, but they seem to be changing.

Yep. And it upconverts only over HDMI. What's the point? If you have a crappy HDTV it will not accept 1080p60, if you have a better TV it will likely display 1080i60 just well. If you have JVC TV, then you get the same picture, because it has the same Genessa engine.
BTW, when I was looking for a HDTV a year and a half ago, I wanted to get the JVC LCD TV, because it was 46", had good price and had Genessa engine. I've read marketing materials about Genessa, they looked good, then I went to a store and compared with my own eyes. Well, everyone knows that in-store video usually has crappy quality, so a TV has to work hard to display something decent out of it. The JVC TV looked just horrible, the picture was pixelated and was falling apart. The proletarian Panasonic looked much better, and the Pioneer... oh, this was just creamy heaven. I wanted the Pioneer, but got the Panasonic, because it was almost twice cheaper. Still better than the JVC. Since then I don't care about cool product names, "Genessa", "Gigabrid" and "Full HD" are just marketing fluff. The point of this rant? I don't think that upconverted picture will be any better than regular 1080i fed into your run-of-the-mill HDTV. Also, who watches video from a camcorder? Pfft.

This is my last hope as well. I want the HD7 with flip-up viewfinder, better OIS, progressive mode (give me at least 30PsF), I would like larger sensors too. I keep my fingers crossed. My options are still open while the HV20/HV30 and the HG10 are still in production. For time being I use my pocked-sized MiniDV.

Possible. Blu-ray supports 1080p60, so why not upconvert and write it out as 1080p60. JVC does not market VD-40 as Blu-Ray player, I don't know whether it records onto a Blu-Ray disk, but seems that it records onto a regular DVD disk in Blu-Ray compatible format. Anyway, this is not real 1080p60, so who cares?

Canon turns its back too. New HF models: proprietary shoe, no focus ring, even a wheelie thing like on the HG10. Would be nice if they updated the HG10, giving it 30p mode, and switch to normal SDHC from miniSD. And flip-up viewfinder.
But Canon's miniSD is not that idiotic as microSD slot on these new JVC cams. While 4GB microSD are in about the same price range as normal SD cards, 8GB cards are 3 times more expensive!

You make it sound like having the same lens and CCD Assembly is a bad thing?
The Fujinon lens is the brightest lens in the market, F1.8-F1.9 (As opposed to canons F1.8-F3.0!!) and JVC's 3CCD assembly still has a larger surface area than any other camcorder in the category, i mean hell, look at the Sony that has only ONE 1/5" chip! That's absolutely insane, I can't imagine how crap the low light performance would be.
From what i've looked at and been told, the OIS has been dramaticially improved over the HD7, and I love MicroSD, now I can fire off a snap shot on an HD6, then chuck the card in my phone and MMS or bluetooth it to a mate Great idea imo! Even though you can record video on it, i'd have no reason to do so when you've got 120GB capacity to play with - who needs SD card?
