the JVC DV300U and minidv
Hello.
I read on another forum that this camera doesn't accept any minidv brand, just jvc, is it true?
I write this because I'm interested in buying it.
I want to hear your advices, comments about this minidv camera.
Now it costs aroun 1600, could I get any other camera, minidv,SD at this price (or less)that delivers so beautiful sharp picture?
The review in question:

No, I do not believe it to be true.
But I do not think you read the review properly:
Quote:
MAIN BAD POINTS ON FIRST IMPRESSION:
1. Not allowed to use other brand tapes.
Importer advised us strongly to use only JVC professional miniDV tapes! We think this is absolutely NONSENSE! MiniDV supposed to be a world standard and every tape with the initionals 'miniDV' should be accepted. Remember: JVC cameras and vcrs had big troubles before with mini-DV tapes and if with this camera other brand tapes again will give problems, its crying time again for many buyers!

Most manufacturers recomend they use their tape. Some even recomend you use their tripod....
That camcorder came out over 5 years ago. It is not being made anymore. There have been a lot of advances in the last 5 years.

Hello
Yes, You are right. They recommend to use the jvc pro minidv tape.
What camera can I buy since some of you said that this (JVC) is one the best picture he has seen ( this was in 2007).
But I want a camera that looks professional, not small.
Not too expensive either.

If you are interested in the GY-DV300U, you may find a used one on Ebay. I own two of these cameras, and have been very pleased with the picture quality. I use Maxell tapes exclusively in this camcorder.

The HV20 does high definition, but does not have all the features the 300U has. If you are looking for a camcorder for professional use and want high definition, the Canon A1 would be a better choice.
