Lots of folks on the forum are looking for the software for these Panasonic cameras that use mini DVD disc drives. The software is possibly still available at Panasonics web page, however, most of us that are using Windows XP have extreme difficulties in putting the original software on that platform. It just doesn't seem to work for various reasons.
I have been in a search for how to edit my DVD-RAM discs that my MD50 camera has generated for most of a year. I just keep buying more DVD-RAM discs and filling them up with no way to do much in editing, except for the features that the cam provides (limited).
Finally, I have found a solution and tested it. It works great! This is the software that Panasonic should have provided with the camera in the first place, except they thought we would never want to do much editing of anything we shot.
Take the disc out of its plastic holder, put it into a drive that will handle mini DVD's tell the conversion software (via browse) where to look for the disc. Once you see the files on the disc (there are 3 folders) look for the INF file in one of the folders. This is what you will convert as it contains the video AND audio. You
don't convert the VRO file as it will not give you all the information needed.
Go take a look at
www.avsmedia.com You will see that they have a host of programs that will work for you. First, the Video Converter takes VRO files and converts them to (among other types) to AVI. You can take converted AVI files into most movie editing software including Windows Movie Maker. A step up from WMM is the AVS Video Editor with a lot more features so you can do some very neat stuff with your converted video. If you buy the conversion software and the editor, you will save money by buying the bundled package they offer.
Once done, burn your product onto a DVD and you are in the movie making business!
