Interval recording (time lapse) with the sun.

I want to film some time lapses that involve the sun rising and setting, but when the sun is shining in the lens, it can fry the CCDs. So how do I film the sun without breaking my camera?

Normally on camcorders the shutter will offer no protection from bright light as it is not a mechanical shutter which closes the light path. The "shutter" on CCD's are normally electronic, gathering light striking the sensor for the period of time needed to accumulate a charge. Also just because you do not see the sun or other bright lights in the display does not mean that it is not in the field of view of the lens. I have not really seen any reliable reports of damage due to bright lights.
