Just purchased the HDR-SR11 at dell.com Pretty excited about it. I hope it turns out as good as the specs look. Dell said they are getting it in March 10th and I got overnight shipping on it for Free which was cool of the saleperson. Once I recieve it I will let everyone know how it is.

I was tempted at that 1033 price point, but I do not know how reliable dell ship dates are...
I'd be interested to know when it ships..

It seems to be listed at $1199. How do you get that price? You have a coupon or was the price lower?
Thanks!

Just bought SR 11 yesterday for 1,049 at my local Costco. Been playing around with it today. The video is great but when I use the Sony bundled software it is jerky. Played it through the camera on my TV via Component cables that came with it, and it looks great.
Not happy about not being able to burn to DVDs like I was with my Sony DCR DVD403.
I am also not impressed with the still shots. It says 10 megapixels but I doubt if this is true. I have a Casio Exlim 7.2 megapixels camera so I did some comparison. The Casio's jpeg file is larger than the SR11s. I took the same picture with the same flash and Casio's file was 4,450kb and SR11's was 3,659kb. I looked at both of them on my computer side by side and Casio's was definitely a sharper and cleaner image. I was hoping to not carry the Casio anymore, but I guess I will still have to.
You can also take a picture with the SR11 while you are videotaping. I discovered one drawback to this method: the flash will not work. I did find you could play some video back in the Sony and capture any frame. Unfortunately the quality of the picture is terrible. I checked the size and they only around 750kb.
I did purchase a 4 gig Memory Stick Pro Duo at Costco today at a great price. They were $20 off, so it was only $29 before tax. The sale ends on March 31 if you can find them. One Costco had an ample suppy and another one had none.
I set up the camera so my stills are stored on the Memory Stick and the video is stored on the camera's hard drive.
I love the 3.2" Wide Touch Panel LCD Display. It is one of the best I have ever seen.
Another drawback on the camera is that there is no neck strap. So you pretty much have to carry it around in your hand. I did see in the accessory booklet that came with the camera that Sony makes a holster carrying case for $49. I'll use my 15% off coupon to buy it.
Nothing more to report. Hope other buyers of the SR11/12 do some posts. Like to know what they think.

Thanks for the info:-). I should check out my local costco (I'm in WA and typically they don't carry much HD but you never know).
There are still no camcorders that really match quality latest digital cameras so no surprise there. But it's a nice extra.
I wonder how this compares to the HF10/HF100. I bought last week 16GB SDHC for $72 so memory sticks are still very pricey in comparison.
If you happen to have time to upload a video at vimeo.com would be really great (or megupload.com).

I also noticed in low-light the Sony still has some focusing issues.
The compression looks pretty good. Possibly better than the HF100. The advantage might be the AVCHD high profile (although I don't know what profile Canon uses).
Regarding HF100 I noticed increased purple fringing which is typical with a smaller sensor. The Sony seems to suffer less from this (perhaps also PP).

Now that I have had my Sony HDR-SR11 for about 4 days I am really beginning to love it.
Discovered a couple new things. There is a round button on the front of the camera just below the optical lens. You can program this to be either a manual Focus, Exposure, AE Shift, or WB Shift. Originally I thought you had choose one via the touch screen menu, which took time to get to. I was showing a friend of mine the camera today and I was showing him this feature and all of a sudden I noticed a menu screen appear that said DIAL SETTING with the following options FOCUS, EXPOSURE, AE SHIFT, WB SHIFT, and RESET. I asked him how he did it. He said he just pushed in the Manual button for a couple of seconds and it appeared.
I did some testing of this and here is what I discovered. Once you push in the Manual button and when the menu appears, you can rotate the button to highlight any one of the options. You can then push in the button again and it will set to the option you just selected. As you select each one an icon appears on the screen. So basically you can adjust each one of them. You can then select RESET to go back to the automatic settings of the camera.
Another think I found out was you can DIVIDE a movie into many parts. It is like editing but not quite. I shot a 30 second movie and selected the Play icon on the touch screen. I played the movie and selected the icon to the far right on the screen which is called the Option icon. Another screen popped up with 3 icons on the bottom. I selected the icon to the far right which is the Option icon. Then you select the far right Icon again (Could not find out what this was named). You will then see an option on the screen called DIVIDE. You can then play to the point you want it divided. You can slow this down to get a better idea. You then stop where you want it to and there is an OK option that appears on the screen. Select this and you have divided the movie. If you want to delete part of it you can. I found that there was no limit on how many times I could divide a movie. I only went 20 times but I guess it would be unlimited.
Found out something else about making AHDVC movies. You connect your camera to your computer via the USB port and upload your movies to your computer. This will activate Picture Motion Browser (PMB). You can then make an AVHDC movie. You can use a regular DVD-R disk. Only one problem you cannot see what is on this disc on your computer unless you have an HD player. I don't have one so I could not see the contents of the disk nor could I play it on my computer. I put the disk in my Blu-Ray player and it worked great.
I also tried using the Disk Copy function that is located on the inside of the camera. It is hidden by the Touch Panel LCD Display. There is also one on the Handycam Station, that is supplied with the camera. The disk was made but I would not advise using it for the following reason.
When I used PMB software to import my video files it created a folder with the date on it. PMB allows you to create a menu structure; 1) By each video file; or 2) By Each Date Taken. I selected By Each Video File, because it shows the date under each thumbnail of that video file. PMB allows you to rename the disc name.
If you select By Each Date Taken, you will only see one thumbnail of the first video scene. PMB allows you to rename the disc name. I definitely did not like this method.
I found out if you do a Disk Copy you do not have any control of what method to choose. It automatically chooses By Each Date Taken.
Hopefully I have helped some of you who have purchased the SR11/12.

Thanks for these tips! I had thought the front control nob could only be set to one of the actions, with a single press to activate. That is great to know that you can change its function by holding it down!
Haven't tried any of the disc burning or editing functions yet.
I did plug the USB cable from the camera to the PS3, then selected on the Camera USB/Hard Disk Mode. One the PS3 I was able to browse the still pictures using the Picture:USB device; and play back the movie clips using Movies:USB Device (but there is not a browser for the movies
Still getting used to the camera, but my favorite with my kids so far has been the 3 second / 12 second slow motion. My daughter loves to do cartwheels and round-off-back-handsprings (she's in gymnastics) and it looks awesome!
I wanted the Sony for the slo-mo feature, and the Canon HF 10/100 for the 30p mode ... can't have it all I guess ...

For those of you who have the SR11/12 you need to look at the Handbook that is installed on your computer when you install the software. It is in PDF format and is 124 pages long. It is much better than the manual that they pack in the box. If you did not change the folder when you were installing the software you should find it at this location on your computer: C:\Program Files\Sony\Sony Digital Imaging Handbook\HDR-SR11

Our Dell Small Business Rep got it for me at $973's.
Ship date is listed at 4/1 but he said it should ship much sooner than that...

Lanc ?
Hopefully I have helped some of you who have purchased the SR11/12.[/QUOTE]
the big question I have is: Does it have a LANC jack to use remote control thru handle ?
Most of my shooting is done using the tripod handle for a greater control of zoom.

I don't know but you can check the online manual: http://129.33.22.12/release/HDRSR11_EN_ES.pdf

Lanc
I have already checked the manual which says the LANC terminal is on the Base unit. No other mantion of its useability is made.
Question: Can you attach the base to the tripod, attach the Camcorder to the base and then control using LANC ?
Local stores do not carry the unit yet and COSTCO has the base unit locked away.
I think SONY may have ruined an otherwise perfect Camcorder for my shooting needs.
Thanks.
