Question Decisions SR200 vs SR85

Hi guys. New member, 1st time post, looking forward to contributing and learning more here.

I am looking at a new camcorder, my last one we had was a VHS shoulder mounted unit so its been awhile.

After looking through the forums, I changed my mind from JVC to Sony, and have narrowed my selections to 2 potential cameras, the sr200 and the sr85.

Yes I went to the local Best Buy, wanted to see the cameras in person. The sales clerk suggested the 85, as it was newer and had better imaging than the 200.

I will be filming family trips and functions, and a good bit is indoors, as my mom has cancer, and these will be kept memories. Also will be filming some discussions and training video clips.

I have looked here, and seen no reviews on the sr85, other than it ships February. Anyone have this camera yet, or have any other suggestions for me to check out? Not quite ready to move up to the High Def price yet. Looking to buy for around $700 US, before warranty.

Thank you in advance for the assistance, and Happy Filming!

Ronnie

Just based on that:
1. I would get the SR200. But I do not have any experience with either camcorder. Nor have I done much research on them (that's your job).

2. I would stay away from that salesman. You may reference me if you see him again.

3. Do not be fooled into thinking newer is better.

I do not have time to research the camcorders. But if you really interested, search SR200 and then SR85 in the little search box at the top of the page. I did it here:

http://camcorderinfo.resultspage.co...Q&ts=v2&w=sr200

http://camcorderinfo.resultspage.co...=Q&ts=v2&w=sr85

This is almost nothing on the SR85.

Both Canon HV20 and HG10 are being sold on the net for less than $700.

Thanks Poncho and Jockey. I appreciate the input. You guys have had wonderful info in all the posts I have read. I still have not made a decision, still researching, but thanks to Jockey's input, now looking @ SR200 vs HG10.

One last request, anyone have any video samples, both out door and indoor, they would not mind posting?

Thanks again,

Ronnie

I have the SR200...

It's a great little sturdy camcorder. If memory serves, the images are not even recorded at 1024X768, but they look GREAT on a Panasonic 42" Plasma and should not notice a difference.

The Wireless Sony mic is also handy and records great sounds, so long as there is not too much noise in the area, which I think is the reason why mine kept on going in and out at a convention.

The SR200 has served me well, and I plan to keep it as a backup when I buy the SR11 soon. The ONLY downside of the SR200 is the Docking station. It does not have a USB port on the camera for data transfer, and if you forget either the dock or cable, you are crap out of luck till you get back to it...
