HD5 & HD6 are in stores

Today I played with the HD6. I always liked the industrial design of JVC products, and this one does not disappoint. I like it better than slick Sony, and much better than all Canons I've seen.

Nevertheless, $1300 seems too steep for a camcorder without viewfinder, without focus wheel and without progressive shooting modes. Looks pretty much like the HD3, but Focus Assist button is moved from the front to the LCD cavity.

In my subjective 5-minute tests I did not notice significant improvement in OIS. The HV30 that was available too, had more stable image at the same zoom.

I don't see the point shelling out $1300 for the HD6 if one can have the new Sony SR11 for about the same money, with tilting viewfinder, a camcontrol wheel, and bigger sensor. Maybe if one REALLY prefers MPEG-2 to AVCHD.

Err, yes it has A bigger sensor, but only has one.
1x 1/3" vs. 3x 1/5" Do the maths, the JVC is capturing more light, not to mention far superior lens performance.
Why would anyone choose AVCHD over MPEG-2? JVC's MPEG2 records with a bit rate up to 30mbps, when the MAX AVCHD can do is 16or17.
At the end of the day, the camcontrol wheel is absolutely useless to use, and i don't remember the last time i've used a viewfinder on my camcorder....

But hey, all to their own.
