Problem with Samsung MX10 : Avi does not work
I just got my Samsung MX10 (low end one), and started to take some videos. Took out my SD card, plugged it in on my card reader, and of to my mac. It turns out that all the movies play only sounds, with a white background (no images/movies). Then tried on on my PC, same thing happens. I did try to convert the avi file to .mov and even .mpeg4, but same problem. This time the images are in black, with sounds. What else should I do? Thanks in advance

.AVI is not a standard format, it is a container/shell/carrier which can contain almost anything. MiniDV produces DV AVI (D25). Other common .AVI files are DivX, Xvid, MJPEG, MPEG4, Cinepak and GoMotion.
You need to install the proper codec on your system. Maybe your manual or software which came with the camcorder will help. If not I would go to the Samsung web site. According to Samsung. "MPEG-4 ASP Video CODEC - The MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) Video CODEC can compress large amounts of data, making them ideal for uploads to the web."

Hey poncho. Yes, it did come with a software, but it's only for PC. I have a mac, the PC I have is for actually my partner's PC. I googled for the mac version, but it returns nothing.

OK, I did some messing around and digging with my SC-MX10 and MacBook and here is what I've found:
1. The Samsung MPEG-4 cameras use the SEDG codec. Hooking up the SC-MX10 via USB cable mounts the camera as a drive and the film clips can be copied.
2. In order to edit/view the clips on a Mac, you must:
a. Use avi2divx.jar to "convert" the files or
b. Install software from http://www.3ivx.com.
After that, you can use QuickTime or iMovie or iDVD or whatever to view, edit, compile, record, burn, etc! (I prefer the avi2divx.jar method since that's free.)

Don't know if that helps, but I do know that without the proper codec you won't be able to do much on your computer.
