Which is better: TRV730 or TRV740?
I'm getting a Digital8 cam, yeah I know it's odd to do it in 2008, but I love 8mm XD
I won an auction on ebay for a TRV730 BUT I have a second chance offer for a TRV740.
My priority is video quality, I want to get the best of SD in 8mm and I know the major difference between both are that the TRV740 has a Megapixel CCD and the TRV730 has a 690k CCD.
So is this a big deal? Or the megapixel CCD is just practical for the stills which I don't care about.
The TRV730 is in better pshysical condition than the TRV740, so I wanna know if the 1mp justifies the 740.
Please help

You tell me what "8mm XD" is and I'll tell you about the CCD's
Okay, I'll tell you now. The DCR-TRV730 and DCR-740 both are Digital8 camcorders and both use the same 4.5 mm (1/4 type CCD) with approximately 1,070,000 pixels and 690,000 used for video.

Thanks Poncho!
I meant I love 8mm media and XD stands for a laughing face.
So you tell me it's the same imager but I read in the excel Digital Camcorder sheet of this forum that yeah both have a 1/4" CCD but the TRV740 gives a resolution of 1mp.
Exactly as it says for the TRV740:
Gross: 1070k
Effective (Video Mode): 1000k
with the TRV730 it just says it has a gross of 690k
Is the info accurate?
Also, the first Digital8 camcorders all have a 1/4" CCD but give a resolution of 460k and an effective of 290k... I'm confused.

They are not 8mm camcorders (also called Video 8 or standard 8) which record analog signals. They are not Hi8 camcorders which record analog signals. They are both Digital8 camcorders they both record in a digital format. They both record and play Digital8 formats. The TRV740 will also play back Standard 8 (8mm) and Hi8 recorded tapes. There is a big difference.

You can make your own conclusions.
On page 157 of the DCR-TRV730 manual it says:
Image device
4.5 mm (1/4 type CCD)
(Charge Coupled Device)
Approx. 1 070 000 pixels
(Memory mode: 1 000 000 pixels)
(Camera mode: 690 000 pixels)
On page 199 of the DCR-TRV740 manual it says:
Image device
4.5 mm (1/4 type) CCD
(Charge Coupled Device)
Gross: Approx. 1 070 000 pixels
Effective: Approx 690 000 pixels
(Camera Mode)
Approx 1 000 000 pixels
(memory mode)

Just because you have a 1/4 " CCD does not mean they have to have the same number of pixels. Technology changes.

Thanks!
Thanks Poncho, that was precise!
I'll go for the TRV730 since the seller has it in a better condition. About the playback, I've just checked the manual and it doesn't specify that it does play analog tapes as the TRV740, however that's not a feature I want a lot. Thanks again
