Any HG10 .mt2s playback software?

WinDVD SE - that comes with the camera - plays the .mt2s files, though every feature is disabled except 'play' and 'repeat.'

Wanting more features, I went to Corel/Ulead's site and saw WinDVD 9 PLUS, which advertizes...
NEW! AVCHD Camcorder Compatibility

Enjoy direct playback of high-definition home movies recorded with the latest AVCHD camcorders from Canon, Sony & Panasonic, either copied from the camcorder hard drive, or on AVCHD disc, or memory card.

I plunked down $80 and installed it, only to find that this doesn't work as advertized. Actually it doesn't work at all. WinDVD 9 does not recognize Canon's files.

Is there any PC based playback software (other than WinDVD SE) that will play these files? Its really hard to work with long movies when you have to watch it from the beginning every time.

Othewise, I really love the HG10

Windows Media Player + CoreAVC codec work fine for me.

Thanks. Yes I am just seeing this in the HG10 resources thread. I could kick myself for forking over the money to Corel

Anyone have a prediction on whether WinDVD 9 plus will support .mt2s files any time soon?

You should be able to play mt2s files. Check if your GPU has the latest updates.

Thanks.

Can I ask if you have seen this happen? WinDVD does not list .mt2s files in its type list on 'open.'

CoreAVC allows the m2ts file to be played in Windows Media, but it doesn't seem possible to jump around. If you try to move the slider to any point in the movie, the picture turns green and corrupts. Once I move the slider, I have to restart play to recover it.

The only way I can chose the time in the movie to view is in Ulead VideoStudio 11. Everything else seems to require viewing the movie from the beginning to get to any point.

Try BSPlayer. Look for older version prior to 1.38. Loads and works faster than WMP.

Just learned this from another forum.

WinDVD 9 Plus will play the files if the extension is changed to .wmv. Navigation through the movie is really smooth. Problem is there is a bug (at least in the download version) that prevents it from showing and being added to the Windows "Open with\Choose Program" dialog.

(here's the info as I posted to Corel)

Win xp
Intel Core Duo E8400 3 ghz
2 gb ram
ATI 3800 series updated drivers

Power DVD gives the best results for me.

1) Good: It uses full hardware support, including hardware deinterlacing to achieve smooth 60fps playback on PC lcd while only having 1-2% CPU usage.

2) Good: You can fast forward/skip forward without any artifacts or bugs.

3) Bad: Must rename files to *.mpg which isnt really a problem if ur renaming the file to what u wanted anyways, just gotta add .mpg.

4) Semi good: The Pow DVD codecs also lets WMP play the avchd files but WMP does not have deinterlacing option embedded so it will just play interlaced 29.97fps which looks bad, but its good for quickly checking the contents of the clip without loading up Pow DVD.

The next runner up for me is Nero7 or 8, also supports full deinterlacing but not hardware, so expect around 50-60% cpu usage on a 2.6ghz core 2 duo system.

Got it now. WinDVD won't allow file extension association with .wmv files. I just renamed it to .mpg and it works. I guess I'll be renaming all video files to .mpg until some sort of a fix is made available.

Thanks for help with this.

It plays anything if there is a codec. BSPlayer is a player, it is not a decoder. But as a player it is much faster and leaner than WMP.
