Can't access disk.
Hello, I currenly have a Hitachi DVD video camera model #DZ-MV730A but I have two DVD disks that when I put them in it says they need to be repaired. When I do so it comes up with an error and says check disk. So then I am unable to access the menu or anything to finalize or do anything with the disks.
And of course one of the disks I have one of my sons first steps on. So I don't want to lose the video.
I have e-mail Hitachi to see if I can send the disks in to get the video off of them but have not heard back from them yet.
If anyone has an idea or has had this happen before please let me know and thanks for any advice.

It sounds like your DVDs have gotten scratched or damaged. Have you tried cleaning them with DVD cleaner? (Around $2-$4 USD in drugstores, Walmart, Target, etc.) Sometimes that helps, sometimes, not. There are also DVD cleaning kits with special pastes that can be rubbed into the DVD (and sometimes the kits come with motorized units that will do that for you). The initial kits run ~$40 USD and again, sometimes they work & sometimes they don't.
There are other options that sometimes work with problematic DVDs, but I don't think they'd help in your case, if the DVDs have not been finalized.
IE, sometimes using a different DVD reader (on a computer) allows you to copy the files from the DVD.
There's also a program (CD Roller) that I don't highly recommend, but it did save at least one or two DVDs for me.
Good luck.

Thanks. I haven't tried a good cleaning yet. But I have tried to put them in my computer but it just see's a blank DVD or can't read it. Probably because it is not finalized.
Even if there was somewhere I could send them that could get the video off of them would be great but I have no idea where other than Hitachi themselves.

Well I cleaned the disks and one of them I was able to get to the menu and finalize. But some of the files are damaged as it won't play them all correctly.
The other disk, cleaning didn't work.
