Can I make video with snapshots interspersed?
I have almost made the decision to get the Canon HV30. Here's what I want to do - I'm very involved in the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walks. (60 miles in 3 days)
QUESTION - in editing software - is it possible to make a slide show with video and pictures interspersed between different video clips and then burn the whole thing to a DVD for team members. If so, what program(s) will do this?

If you are asking is it possible to insert pictures to or between your video clips, the answer is yes.You can do this even with windows movie maker. But only the one that comes with Vista supports HDV. So if you have windows Xp you cannot use HD video with Movie Maker. Any third party software that supports HDV will also do the job. I am using Sony Vegas which is a very good editing software.

video with pictures inserted for a DVD
Vsansal
I have Windows XP Vista along with Premiere Elements. Will this program work for inserting pictures along with video for a DVD? Without first buying the camcorder and trying out the software, I don't know how to determine in reading the specs if this is possible. Thanks.

CoronadoGal,
Good for you being so involved in the 3 day walks!!! (I'm female!)
Second, love your island & SD in general. (I'm a Zonie!)
Third, yes, with most good video editing software, I'd imagine you could intersperse photos with video. I have a few programs I've purchased & have even cobbled the results of them altogether for a final product.
For video editing, I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum (recently upgraded from version 4 which I used for five years.) To make the photos easier for me to include, rather than do it (initially) in Sony Vegas, I use DVD Photo Slideshow by Anvsoft - it lets you quickly & easily add the photos you want, add and/or change transitions & then I'd export it & then pull it into Sony Vegas Movie Studio to be interspersed with video footage.
If you were going to do video/one photo/video/one more photo/etc, then it would be very easy to do in Sony Vegas. It's just I'd have video/several photos/more video & the other software facilitated that.
Good luck.

You can do it with Premiere Elements. All you need to do is import your pictures as if you are importing a video clip and put them in the same timeline. By doing that your final video can contain both video and pictures.
By the way which version of Adobe Premiere Elements you have. I am asking this because only the 3rd and 4th edition supports HDV. If you have an earlier version you will need to upgrade or buy something else.

Yes. As I understand you want standard DVD's which will play in standalone DVD players. There is a lot of software to choose from.
I used Sony Vegas 7 for this slideshow: http://vimeo.com/618171 I could have stuck a video in it.

CoronadoGal,and Silly Rabbit,my wife has been very involved here in Michigan with the 3day walk. She's walked the last 2years and is in training for it again this year.I have'nt posted it here yet ....but I did a lot of video at last years walk, frankly I thought my video wasn't all that great,I mostly just tried to capture the event without over producing it.Mainly it was posted on the 3 day org. message board.I sent out about 60 dvd's mainly to the women and men who walked last year.Got a lot of "oohhhh thats me in your video" and "that got me crying all over again".Anyways here's the shortcut if your interested

Fair warning this is a very large file, gonna need a fast connection,it's about 16min's.This video was done quick and dirty just to get it on the net in a hurry,I just tried to capture the highligts and still ended up with 16 mins.

Oh, yeah, regarding authoring/burning to DVD for standalone players...I use DVD Lab Pro. Kind of pricey, but really good.

DTM, I watched the first couple of minutes of your vid - very, very nice! I'll watch the rest after I do some of my chores around the house.
BTW, are you the same DTM in Michigan who is a member of another message board a Silly Rabbit frequents?

Good job! That is a video that the people involved will cherish for a very long time.
We do a 5 mile walk here locally...

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm feeling pretty comfortable now in the software I can choose in order to create a really cool video/pic for my team. This will be my 5th time as a walker in the Breast Cancer 3-Day and my 6th time as a member of the Crew. In the past I've always created slide shows for my team of 25 women....this year I'll be able to create something a little bit different. We start our training this coming Saturday, and will walk over 400 miles in order to get ready to walk those 60 miles in November. I'm hoping to video lots of it with my new camcorder

Well, it would appear you are not the DTM from Michigan that I know from another message board.
