DVD Labeling
How do you guys do DVD labels? I've always done paper labels, and they work for me. I wanted to be more professional so I got some Lightscribe discs but I was disappointed that you only get black and white text on a solid background. It really doesn't have any advantages over a Sharpie.
Does anybody here do pro-type labels?

I used to trade tv shows, before so many began to be released commercially. I'd traded several hundred disks (and VHS tapes before that) and the consensus in the groups I traded in was to not label any tapes or disks with anything other than a Sharpie. IIRC, some people disliked labels that you'd stick on the tape/DVD because they can get caught in the unit. I've had it happen to me & it's not a pretty sight.
Having said that, when I do send out DVDs to my family & friends, I make a custom label (often using family photos) and print them out & stick them on the DVD & pop them into a DVD envelope. They just look really nice. (IMO ) For long term storage of my collection, I only use Sharpies.
They used to have printers that would print directly on the DVDs (you have to buy special "print on" DVDs) and I think that would be nifty. Not practical (for me), but nifty.

I've switched over to printing on the disc, you need the blank white dvd's and a printer with a disc carriage.I got a HP D5360,I forget the price but around $100 for the printer.I'm pretty impressed with the quality, much better than the paper labels, and the process is faster.I don't have a program yet to do extensive graphic's yet,but I understand it's out there.

I use inkjet printable discs with an Epson printer. Discs are cheap and you don't have to worry about putting a paper label on a disc. The printers are cheap as well and they come with software to do basic labeling directly on the discs.

I made my first label and it turned out somewhat okay. The contrast was too low the first time, so I put the same disk in again and it came out okay, with a total time of 32 minutes.
I guess if I ran out of paper labels and didn't have a sharpie and absolutely positively had to have a DVD by tomorrow this would be a somewhat useful technology. Here it is:
