Having purchased a Sony HDR SR 12 (Pal version as I live in Australia) I have now found out, to my horror, that AVCHD home movies filmed here and play great on an Australian PS3 WILL NOT PLAY on an American or Japanese PS3. Why the hell has Sony done this when games will play fine and many Blu Ray movies (all region ones) play ok.

Obviously there are no copyright problems with home movies and this is very stupid & annoying that we cant share our high def AVCHD family movies etc to our relatives abroard.

Does anyone know a way round this or can pursuade Sony to sort out a firmware update as this will become an increasing problem as time goes on.
By the way, I much prefer using AVCHD than HDV both in quality terms & ability to access movies.
