Best Small Camcorder?

Hello!

I'm planning on buying a camcorder in the near future, and have been trying to do some research on the one that will best suit my needs.

My main priorities are small size and picture quality. Let me explain further:

I would actually like to find a camcorder that can fit in my pocket, which still takes decent video. I have noticed that, with my pocket-sized digital camera, I have no hesitation about taking it with me wherever I go. As a result, I'm able to take far more pictures than if I planned on taking it ahead of time. However, I'm not interested in one of those "straight to Youtube" cameras with very low quality, I'd prefer it take high quality video. I'm not sure such a camera exists yet, but I'm trying to find the closest thing to it.

So far, cameras that have come up in my search are the SDR-S150 and the Sanyo VPC-HD1000.

Any further camera recommendations or simply comments on which of those two cameras is more suitable are welcome.

So, which is the best small camera?

Ummm...the "straight to Youtube" cams do not take "very low quality" (at least not all of them.) I've taken video with my Flip Ultra that is on par with my Sony Hi-8 digital.

In the interest of dueling doggiez recorded on dueling pocket cams ...

Here are a couple of vids from my Flip...

(Actually, I tried uploading them earlier, but Vimeo is way bogged down today!)

Actually, Walkerds, the reason you stated is exactly the reason I got the Flip. I pretty much always carry it with me. Yeah, my Razr has a video camera, but the quality (when uploaded to a PC) is horrible.

My dogs don't watch TV... Too much violence

Well, the clips were copy/pasted from the Flip to a hard drive & then uploaded to Vimeo. No editing.

My dogs Tivo all the judge shows. You wouldn't believe the contracts we have around here regarding feeding times, amounts of food, types of food, walks, etc. I'm seriously thinking of cancelling Tivo.

Seriously, tho. I know I'm not hard core like alot of people here. I'm not into hi def. I just like my video to be good, so that I can save & relive fond memories. But it sure seems (IMO) that the Flip does pretty well (all things considered) and seems to have an [undeserved] bad rep as a low quality, cheapo teen toy. Yeah, it's probably not the cam you'd take to record your kids school play or grandma's 90th birthday. But for toting around in my handbag/tote & recording those impromptu moments, IMO, it's really worth it's salt.

I must say i concur with Poncho.

I have a Canon A610 and it does take really quite amazingly good videoclips at 640 x 480 resolution. You can choose frame rates from 15fps to 30fps to even 60fps (progressive scan too !). At 60fps, the resolution choice is more limited, but thats a frame-rate that almost no videocams can do. (note i said almost).

So... yes for really very little money, say 150 to 200bucks, you can get a very small, solid-state video device and the videos will look great on vimeo at the top resolution too.

Well, I'm right next door to you in AZ. Although we're in the desert, (IIRC) we have more pools per capita than any other state.

(Like we have a ton more water than you do... )

Hi
I have understood that walkerds is looking for a VERY GOOD camcorder that produces HIGH QUALITY video but with a VERY SMALL SIZE!
These are his main requirements, no words about cheap internet solution were mentioned.

Wow. That is pretty subjective...

I don't like the Sanyo VPC-HD1000 because of the video samples I have seen. Yes, it is a High Definition camcorder, but the samples I have seen are too shakey. So I do not consider it a "VERY GOOD camcorder that produces HIGH QUALITY video"

But, that is just my opinion...
