What Editing Software Is The Best For A Sony DCR-SR82

Hey everyone, I just got a Sony DCR-SR82 60GB HDD Camcorder and was told there are not a lot of options in regards to editing software yet(This was said in December 07). I currently have a MAC PowerBook Pro and was looking to see if anyone knew of a great editing program for my specifications. I am looking for something that has a great compression aspect, able to edit raw footage, and ultimately put edited footage on a DVD for home playback. Please let me know if anyone can help.

Thanks,

J

Yours records to mpeg2 like my sony SR100. Here is what I do to edit on my mac.
1. Drag movie file to your desktop.
2. Convert to DV using mpeg streamclip. I check deinterlace.
3. import to iMovie 6.
4. Edit and burn.
Looks good. Very little loss of quality. I have found out that if you use toast and compress to fit on a dvd, looks bad.

Okay, I had pretty much already tried that. I guess I am looking more for an all in one program that is effective in a single process, not multiple programs to get my media burnt. Thanks for your help though.

The only other option would be sony vegas pro under bootcamp. Not sure if FCE/FCP will do it natively.

Convert to DV, then import to windows movie maker. BTW, for the mac, iMovie 8 imports without the need to convert with mpeg streamclip.
