HDR-SR1 files undeleted, camcorder not seeing them
Yesterday I accidentally hit "Delete All" on my camcorder, then when I realized what I did, turned the camcorder off and on again.
The movies that had not yet been deleted were fine. I took the camcorder home, and ran an undelete program. Apart from a couple of files that had been overwritten, it was able to successfully undelete almost all files.
When files are deleted, the first character of the filename is destroyed and replaced with a special character. I changed that beack to a regular filename (from _0037.mts to 00037.mts). I changed filenames in the "\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM" and "\AVCHD\BDMV\CLIPINF" directories (*.mts and *.cpi files, respectively).
But now, when I connect the camera, it tells me that there are no new files on the camcorder, just the 27 files I successfully pulled off of the camera when I stopped the delete process.
Is there something I need to do to get the camera to recognize these files? A file I need to modify to add those to a playlist of some sort?
Thanks.

No one knows? Well, neither did Sony...
...they have a team to help undelete files, but when I told them that I already had undeleted files, they didn't know what to tell me.
Bottom line, I copied all of the files off of the camera to my computer, and got them into Sony Vegas OK. Now I am laboriously encoding the files to 1080i 5.1 WMV file format.

The process for un-deleting files that you mentioned in the first post is correct of course for a PC but I dont know what your cam requires so unfortunately I cant help either.
Edit- After re-reading your initial post when you say you successfully un-deleted the files how did you confirm that? Were you able to see the files from within explorer after connecting your cam via a USB cable? If so cant you just drag and drop the files to your computer? If so why do have to see them from your cam?
Question- why are you

when they are already 1080i with DD 5.1 AC3 in an mpeg2 transport stream container? When you re-encode your video it normally reduces quality and since you are re-encoding to the same size it doesn't make sense. If you were trying to save space and compromise by re-encoding to 720P I could see why but not when your encoding to the same resolution (1080i)? Just curious?

Yes, I could see them when it was connected. I could copy them to the hard drive, but they are in a different format than what is usable on the computer.
The other issue is that I wanted to view them on the camera itself. They are not easily viewable on the computer.

The format that it comes in is not a format that can be viewed in Media Player, etc. It has to be converted to a different format.

Just as a suggestion you might want to try downloading and installing a free program called Media Player Classic. It will play the files straight from the cam and actually will play any thing that windows media player will play only play it better. I think this might help you a bunch and solve most your problems that you mention. Just do a google search and you will find it and I believe that the latest version is number 6.4.9.1.
