I just purchased a Canon Vixia HF100 camcorder and also recently upgraded my editor. Movie Edit Pro 14 PLUS will handle AVCHD files from the Canon (and others) and converts them into a more easily edited format. And Movie Edit Pro 14 Plus records from other HD (and standard) sources as well as handling the AVCHD source files, has an incredible powerhouse of video (and audio!) editing tools (such as picture in picture, speed up and slow down, color adjustments, and numerous others, with many edit tracks available), and also will create DVD menus and is ready to burn DVDs, Blu ray, etc. (Of course the burners and media have to get to reasonable prices.)

I've used earlier versions of Movie Edit Pro (from Magix: www.magix.com) and have been amazed at all the power it has, yet its price is only $90 from Magix. I'm using it with a Core 2 processor 2.4 G speed, and 3 gig of RAM, and a good video card.

My one complaint about Movie Edit Pro 14 Plus is that they are too sparse in telling what is needed to get the AVCHD working. However, their email tech support is extremely helpful and free for registered users, with one day turnaround. It turned out that I had to activate some codecs (for free) before the program could recognize the AVCHD source files. Once I did the one time activation the files were handled easily and well. The conversion was pretty quick, much shorter than the actual running time of each video file.

It's interesting that Magix does mention about having to have your camcorder connected to copy the files from your card, if your camera uses a card. Apparently Sony and Panasonic might use a special file format system on the cards that need the camera driver for you to copy from the card. But I found that you can just put the SDHC card from the Canon into a regular card reader, copy the file(s), and you are ready o go.

I was panicking for a short while when Movie Edit Pro 14 Plus didn't recognize the MTS (AVCHD) files and tried to find convertors. Good luck! But after writing to Magix and getting the reply everything works well.
