GeForce® Go 7400 notebook graphics processing unit (GPU) and
224MB Total Available Graphics Memory , Intel® Graphics
Media Accelerator 950

Any and all comments appreciated!

That laptop should work fine for editing. You should have 2-3GB Ram. It will not be a speed deamon with AVCHD but nothing is. If you have not bought the machine yet, I would look for one with the nvidia mobile 8400 or 8600 graphics cards as they help out with the decode of video during playback better.

Thanks Jaymode...I already own the laptop and it is maxed out at 2gb memory. I was wondering if I needed to upgrade the system when I upgrade the camcorder to the SR12 (currently have the hdr-hc1) or if I could get by with the laptop and then move later. Sounds as if I can get by. Now I'm worried about which software will keep my AVCHD in HD! I am reading that Vegas reads AVCHD but converts it to SD...but that's another thread. This newbie stuff sucks...! Thanks..

Keep in mind though that Vegas Platinum 8.0 only "reads" AVCHD. It does not "write" AVCHD. It only edits and converts your AVCHD video to Standard Definition. AVCHD output is not possible with it. __________________

I see. I am using Vegas 8 PRO and was able to output in AVCHD format. So I guess that is a limitation of the Platinum version only. Vegas 8 Platinum should still be able to output HD, but just in another format than AVCHD.
