MPEG-4 and h.264

Can someone tell me if MPEG-4 AVC the same as h.264. If not which is better quality or are they both equal quality.

H.264 is a standard for video compression. It is also known as MPEG-4 Part 10, or MPEG-4 AVC (for Advanced Video Coding).
